The POS is a connector from Emmett, ID to Port Orford/ Pacific Ocean located 800 miles away.

At Emmett, the POS and the TAT connect. At this point, the TAT turns East and goes to Wyoming and the POS starts West and goes to Port Orford, OR. At this point, the rider can also put together a loop.

Riding the POS, there will be sections where you will be very remote, so watch your fuel and water. This will not be a concern if your are camping.

You may want to take some time to enjoy Whitman National Forest, Malheur National Forest, Strawberry Mt. Wilderness, Ochoco National Forest, Deschutes N.F., Newberry Crater, Pauline Lake, East Lake, Umpqua N.F., and Siskiyou N.F.

Oregon is beautiful and green. Most of the POS is non-pavement but has an acceptable amount of back road pavement. Watch your fuel level and locate your overnight if you need a motel.

Enjoy the adventure and ride with care and respect.

This is a connector from the outer banks of the Atlantic Ocean (Nags Head) to Burnsville, VA (469 miles). There is lodging, food, and gas available at the start, which is on the beach. The first half is pavement, which is the price you pay for being in a densely populated area close to the ocean. The second half is worth the ride, just hang in there. The back roads and countryside are beautiful. You will travel through North Carolina and Virginia to arrive in Burnsville, which is the connection with the TransAmerica Trail. Once in Burnsville, turn North for West Virginia and South for North Carolina (TAT VA map #3). Gas and motels are readily available and a good overnight is Appomattox, VA. The spur passes through Appomattox State Forest, George Washington National Forest, Great North Mountains, and Shenandoah Mountains.

The West Loop is a two day package ride with a total of about 400 miles (200 per day). The rider may start from Corinth, MS at Lake Hill Motors Honda/ Yamaha dealership and ride to Batesville, MS. Alternatively, you can start in Batesville, MS and ride to Corinth, MS.

Lake Hill Motors is tent and RV friendly and will provide safe and free parking for your tow vehicle. Several motels in Batesville will provide parking for your tow vehicle, but make arrangements first.

Gas stops are not a problem with several C-stores on the route. If you can make it to Paris, MS (mm #153.98), you’ll find a good country store with gas and good hamburgers.

Riding the loop in both directions is fun and enjoyable. The Holly Springs National Forest, with its ground cover of kudzu and beautiful pine trees is a joy, but be careful here. Mississippi has its share of ticks and they love the pine straw cover. Also watch for the deer and other wildlife, which can ruin your trip if you hit one of them. Sometimes they just come out from nowhere and they are fast.

There isn’t much water crossing on the loop, but dust as well as mud can be a problem. Enjoy, have fun, and ride with care.

The East Loop is a two day package ride with a total of about 400 miles (200 per day). The rider may start in Corinth, MS at Lake Hill Motors Honda/ Yamaha dealership and ride to Fayeteville, TN. Alternatively, you can start in Fayetteville, TN and ride to Corinth, MS.

Lake Hill Motors is tent and RV friendly and will provide safe and free parking for your tow vehicle, if needed. Several of the motels in Fayetteville will provide parking for your tow vehicle, but make arrangements first.

The East Loop is mainly in Tennessee, with rolling hills and a beautiful landscape. Gas is not a problem, with several convenient stores on the route.

Starting from Corinth, at mile marker 58.32, is Indian Creek Rd. This is a fun section riding along the creek. Then, head into Browntown Area and Robbins Rd and Roanoke Creek Rd. All of these are good dual sport roads.

Collinwood, TN is a good gas stop at mile #80. There is some pavement on this day, but it is back-country roads with pleasant countryside and friendly folks.

Starting from Fayetteville, TN, Knob Creek will get your attention. It is a wide crossing, but not deep, usual, and a hard gravel bottom. Traveling in either direction is a fun, enjoyable day on your motorcycle. Ride with care.

The Mississippi Hill Country Loop is a two day ride with a Northbound route and a Southbound route. Each day’s ride is different and takes a day to complete that leg of the loop.

The Southbound day starts in Batesville, MS. The route is 261.22 miles and ends in Gluckstadt, MS, which has a comfortable motel close to good restaurants.

Soon after you get through the city limits of Batesville, the route opens up with gravel and dirt based roads. Mississippi is rural, so just pay attention to your navigation and you will be okay.

Gas is not a problem, with many mom and pop country stores located on the route. The state has a large population of deer and wildlife. They can bust out of the woods and be a danger in front of you in an instant. When you see one deer, there are usually two or three just behind running at full speed.

You will be riding through farmland of cotton, rice, corn, and soybeans. During the harvest, heavy farm equipment will be sharing the road. Be careful and make sure that they see you.

The route is fun and can be very dusty during the hot summer or very muddy if caught in a rain storm.

Have fun, enjoy, and ride with care.

The Mississippi Hill Country Loop is a two day ride with a Northbound route and a Southbound route. Each day’s ride is different and takes a day to complete that leg of the loop.

The Northbound day starts in Gluckstadt, MS, just north of Madison, MS, which is part of the Jackson metro area. The route is 244.81 miles and ends in Batesville, MS with several good motels and good restaurants available.

After you ride through the Gluckstadt/ Madison area, the route opens up with gravel and dirt based roads. Mississippi is very rural, with gravel roads everywhere, so just pay attention to your navigation and you will be okay.

Gas is not a problem with country convenience stores all along the route. Also, the state has a large population of deer and wildlife, so be careful of that.

At mile marker 127.82, the route might be hard to see depending on the time of year. It’s a Jeep road and might have deep ruts. There is an easy short bypass, if you need it, marked on Map #4.

Remember that you will be traveling through farmland of cotton, rice, corn, and soybeans. During the harvest, heavy farm equipment will be sharing the road, so be careful.

The route is fun and can be very dusty during the hot summer months and can also be very muddy if you are caught in a rain storm. A good lunch stop is at the junction when you cross highway US 82 just west of the town of Winona, MS. Have fun and enjoy…

641 Miles

The Colorado section of the SR starts in Trinidad, CO. Here, you start a gradual gain in elevation until the crossing of the Continental Divide at Tincup Pass.

The first 285 miles are shared with the TAT, then it turns North for the WY state line, while the TAT continues West to the Utah state line. The first gas stop is 110 miles away at La Veta, with a motel and food available as well. Your next gas stop is Westcliffe, CO, at 98 miles away and again in Salida, CO, 77 miles away (motel, gas, and food available).

Salida is the junction where you turn North and break away from the TAT. The route goes to St. Elmo, a real must-stop. From here, start your climb to Tin Cup Pass, which is very rocky. I have given the riders a Big Bike Bypass with easy exit and easy way back on the TAT that is marked on my maps. If you take the bypass, ride to St. Elmo, then back track to Buena Vista and Cottonwood Pass, which is just as beautiful but does not have the ROCKS. You will enjoy Crest Butte and Kebler Pass. Then, it’s on to Rifle, CO, Meeker, CO, and Craig, CO, each with motel, food, and gas available. Cross into WY and end in Baggs, WY.

771 Miles

The New Mexico section of the SR starts 24 miles East of El Paso, TX. Then, it’s a short run North before you cross into the state of New Mexico. One helpful idea is to arrive in El Paso in the early afternoon the day before you start your ride. Locate a motel (if not camping) and ride out east to locate the Trail Head. This will save you time and give you an early start the next morning. The first gas stop and motel is 194 miles away in Capitan, NM. That first day of riding is in the open high desert with 80% being hard-packed gravel/ dirt roads. There are some sections that are impassable when wet. Capitan has a comfortable motel, food, and gas.

Leaving Capitan, you will cross Capitan Gap. This road is rocky and about 10 miles long. I have given the riders a choice of taking a Big Bike Bypass, marked on the maps with easy exit and easy entry back onto the TAT. Your next gas, motel, and food stops are 173 miles away in Sumner, NM, and 151 miles along again at Logan, NM. Fuel up again at Gladstone, NM (Clayton, NM) and then ride the final 140 miles into Trinidad, Co. New Mexico is fun but you are alone for most of the ride, so bring water and snacks, and watch your fuel level.
